Bestie ki shaadi

Friday, 28th Nov was my best buddy's wedding in Chhatrapati Shambhaji Nagar (previously called Aurangabad). The groom is from Karnataka and the bride from Maharashtra.
We are a group of 3 close knit friends who worked together a few years back and that turned us into buddies beyond the workplace.
The 2 of us still work in the same campus(but for different employees) while the third one is based abroad.
The friend from abroad showed up on Thursday night for the sangeet function. She was kind enough to make me a part of the celebrations through video call while I was already in an office party. Reaching home from the party and packing my bag, we got on a late night call to discuss the next day. I started my travel at 2am and she went off to sleep. It took us (me n my husband) less than 5 hours to reach out destination. She was still in her dreams when I disrupted her by another phone call to open the door 😂 we were so glad to see each other after such a long time.
We freshened up, met her parents (I met them for the first time in all these years), and they met my husband. We clicked some crazy pics while the tea was being prepared in the background.

We had tea, learnt more about each other, the 2 of us catching up on a lot of other stuff. We also explored the place we were putting up at, and it was beautiful 🤩
After some initial catching up, we got back to our business - the business of getting ready. Yes, he was taking his wedding vows in the morning!! We got into our respective rooms to get ready. After around 30 mins the doors opened and the baraatis were ready. It was a 15 min drive to the venue.

We were greeted to a beautifully decorated entrance with a huge Ganpati idol, flowers and pretty chandeliers.
While we were entering inside, my husband was reading the host board outside. The surname rang a bell in his head. He has a close friend with the same surname. While he was just processing his thoughts, the man guiding at the entrance was a familiar face. My friend had already entered and was talking to him. I reached near her and kept my hand on her shoulder keenly listening to what was being told. Once the conversation was done, this person faced up and looked at me to give a surprised look....he was my husband's friend with the same surname 😀
Two friends who are unable to meet in Pune despite the face they live in the same locality, were destined to meet in another city 250kms away!
We went to the terrace where the phera ceremony was about to take place. We met the groom and his family. The ceremony started soon after.

We were having our share of chit chats and laughter. Whenever there was a moment, we were being stared at to remind us to zip up. The ceremonies concluded with a couple of re-takes for the photographer to be able to capture the moments properly 😇
We went down to the dining hall for breakfast. The breakfast was an elaborate spread of idli, medu wada, poha, sandwich, fresh fruits, sheera and tea. We tasted everything and relished it too. Post the filling breakfast, we made our way back to the terrace. After completing the ceremonies , both the families dispersed to their respective places to prepare and get ready for the next set of ceremonies.
A while later, baraat arrived at the door. This was a simple and decent baraat. The dhol and the dance happened only at the door unlike our North Indian weddings where the baraats are longer - both in the size of the gathering and in the distance they cover dancing. The groom and his mother who were seated in the car till then were made to step out and join the gathering to dance and celebrate the happiness of the wedding. There were a few other ceremonies that took place on the stage followed by the jaymala. Our friend was officially married now. Guests started pouring on the stage to meet and bless the couple and also to get their pictures clicked.

We went to the dining hall for lunch. I was too full from the amazing breakfast, I could only manage to have a poori and a few spoons of basundi. His elder sister handed over some carefully selected gifts. We went back, wished the couple once again & then left with happiness in our hearts on our best buddy's wedding.
