A lot of situations come and go, lot of health conditions, diseases, wars situations, curfews and natural calamities happen. But this one is unusual. This one is special. This is something which no one has experienced ever before.
This is corona virus, also referred as covid-19.
Yes, this is an unusual situation that started somewhere in a Chinese City called Wuhan during the late 2019.
It is infectious. Spreads through saliva drops, coming in contact with an infected person, from objects that might be carriers of the virus and other such sources.
The virus wasn't taken seriously and was not attempted to be contained in the initial stages. The infection comes into notice only after a few days of contact. People were still travelling to all parts oft he world as usual. Slowly the virus was transmitted to almost every nook and corner of the world.
The nations started understanding the severity of the virus, the rate at which it was spreading and the loss it was causing.
It started becoming unsafe to step out of the houses. Eventually people started staying inside. Indian prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi asked his fellow citizens to observe nationwide lockdown.
This nationwide lock required everyone to stay indoors, totally. No one was required to step out of their homes , no more socialising. Step out only to get essential supplies. Only essential services providers were required to work and that too with reduced capacity.
Schools were closed, offices closed, no maids, no helpers.
This meant families were at home together for days at a stretch, something that was never seen before.
Kids were happy as it was an extended summer vacation. They were sad too. They were confined to the 4 walls of their homes. They were not allowed to go and play with their friends, no extra curricular activities , no school. They started watching tv, playing games on mobile, learning new things, cooking, and helping their parents as well.
The working professionals started missing their offices, started to understand the disadvantages of otherwise lucrative work from home option.
Families started doing all the household chores by themselves. Partners started helping each other with all the responsibilities. They started cleaning the house, doing the utensils, cooking, taking care of the kids, playing with them, helping them with various other activities.
Households started using available resources with caution. There was less garbage, more cleanliness. No vehicles on the streets meant lesser pollution. People started playing with their kids, started engaging more with the elderly at home, made groups to video chat and catch up on family and friends.
The category who used to say they don't get time, now started getting time to follow their dreams, to pursue their hobby and to spend more time with their families.
There were no new movies or no new episodes of the daily soaps. People started finding solace in reading books and listening to music.
Something which was never imagined or or visualised became the new normal. It has taught a lot of things to mankind which was getting lost in the hustle bustle of daily life.
