Tree Plantation drive - for a greener tomorrow

He who plants a tree plants a hope.

With urbanization and industrialisation the green cover is rapidly disappearing from the surface of mother Earth.
I got an amazing and much awaited opportunity to volunteer for a tree plantation drive conducted by my organization.
I had just come back from another CSR activity when the nomination form popped up for this tree plantation drive scheduled for 2 days later. I grabbed the opportunity and nominated myself. Confirmation came by mail the next evening. I was super excited on having been selected. Next day morning I reached office on time, the volunteers gathered and we were sent to a location in Khadakwasla. The location was over an hour's drive from our office. CWPRS(Central Water & Power Research Station) officials haad kindly agreed and allowed us to carry out our plantation drive in their housing complex. There was a tent setup for us to be seated where we had an initial welcome note along with tea. Our partners had also joined us who were supporting us in the drive from other aspects. Post the welcome, we proceeded towards the site. There were 25 different species of saplings and 2k saplings to be planted in an area of 1-acre land using the Miyavaki technique. We were handed over disposable gloves and garden spades. All of us were excited and started digging the earth with our garden spades and planting the saplings. Though it had rained the previous night, the sun was shining bright and it was becoming hot for employees from an MNC who are used to working on their laptops in air conditioned offices. Still each one of us put in our best efforts to plant more than 10 saplings per head. Once done, we gathered all the garden spades together, took off the gloves, washed our hands and rehydrated ourselves.

We proceeded back to the tent for a vote of thanks followed by lunch.

While our drivers were having their lunch, we sat on the grass in the lawns for a brief chit chat.

It was a wonderful experience away from the normal routine of working on laptops, having meetings , strategy and stand up calls. This was a heart warming experience giving us the opportunity to do our bit on making the planet greener and a better place to live.

I saw a video a few days after the event where everyone was carrying their personal oxygen cylinders as the air is no longer breathable.
I hope our efforts today, help negate the pollution being caused every day. Wishing for a greener, healthier and a brighter future for generations to come.
Looking forward to more such volunteering activities. 😇
