When Plans Changed, Purpose Remained

One of our senior leaders were expected to be visiting our India office. We had planned a visit to one of our schools with them. Everything was planned.
That entire week the rain gods were super happy. It poured cats n dogs in the entire city and state. Many low lying areas were submerged in water. Schools were closed, offices requested employees to continue remotely. Routine was disturbed for almost everyone. As the schools had to be closed in that duration, the visit as well had to be cancelled.
After almost 3 months, we finally rose up again determined to go ahead with our visit but without any visitor. It was just us - a few volunteers who collaborated amongst ourselves, communicated with the required teams and showed up at the school. We were taken to the principal's office and were comfortably seated there. A little while later we were served with hot coffee. The school staff and the principal talked to us to understand what we wanted to do, the kids, the time needed and the space required. While we had our coffee, the classroom was setup and the kids were made to sit on rugs in neat rows divided into a section each for boys and girls.
While we left the principal's office, a group of girls came forward to welcome us with haldi kumkum and aarti. This is a beautiful tradition these schools still carry everytime we visit them.
We then went to the classroom and an important and interersting session behan on "clean energy, green energy". We were delivering the session while the students happily participated. We also got the students to play a short interesting game and then distributed goodies. The students queued up to go back to their classroom. While we exited the room, there were another set of students waiting to handover handmade paper bouquets to all of us. We were then given a tour of the school to showcase all that our organization has done for the school.
From there we proceeded towards the school ground to plant a few saplings. It was heart warming to do a small bit from our side. And then another set of students handed over cute succulents to us. We finally left back for our office with a heart full of energy and gratitude.
